Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) announced the launch of its third annual award competition at a press conference held at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. The event was attended by a large gathering of local and international media representatives, as well as the judges from the previous season and the winners in various categories.
Mr. Ali Khalifa Bin Thalith, Secretary-General of the Award, in his speech said that the committee and its supporters are fully behind Dubai’s candidature for Expo 2020, as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The Board of Trustees launched “Creating the future”, which is the main category, as well as a new category named “Street Life”, while the third and fourth categories, “General” and “Black and White” remained unchanged. In addition, special awards were announced that include Photographic Research/Report Award and Photography Appreciation Award (Personal, Group or Team Award) in appreciation of the culture of photography arts and to promote it internationally.
Mr. Bin Thalith reiterated the Award’s commitment to foster strong ties with the media that has played an instrumental role in taking the Award to the international stage, in accordance with the ambitions of the founder and patron of the Award, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
The guests and invitees also got the opportunity to see the new website, which was launched in conjunction with the announcement of the new season. With an expanded database to accommodate and showcase works of photographers from around the world, together with a comprehensive interactive experience, the website successfully accomplishes one of the most important strategic goals of the Award.
Speaking at the occasion, Sahar Alzarei, Assistant Secretary-General, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, gave a background of the Award and its new categories and entry criteria, in addition to the ease of registration via the new website.
During the press conference, the registration commencement was also announced. This is the first time in three seasons that registration will be open from March and will continue till the midnight of December 31, 2013. During the first and second editions of the Award, it was open from September and June, respectively.
