Photography Workshops Conclude in Dubai

Dated: 17 Jan 2013

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) recently concluded a series of workshops presented by some of its judges in Dubai. Workshops were hosted on the 11th, 12th and 14th of January and were presented by world renowned photographers Martin Grahame-Dunn, Joseph Smith and Tom Ang. The HIPA Judging panel has also concluded the judging process for the second season of the award “Beauty of Light”.

Martin Grahame-Dunn, world renowned photographer and HIPA judge commented “these workshops are very important as part of HIPA’s strategy of educating the local community in the art of photography. The number of attendees has over-exceeded our expectations and the opportunity to present in front of the locals here has been a pleasure. Such a high standard of workshops is only appropriate for the high standard of submissions we have gone through this season, it has been a great success”.

Also commenting on the conclusion of the workshops was world-renowned photographer and bestselling author, Tom Ang, who added that “the workshops and the entire judging process within the award have been an interesting experience. It was great to watch and learn several different approaches by fellow photographers and their broad approach towards the art form. Ang, whose workshop saw an overwhelming number of attendees and a long queue for autographs afterwards, added that “I would love to return to Dubai in the near future to share more of my expertise with the local photography community”.

Submission for the second season of HIPA closed on midnight of the 31st of December last year, after being open from the 1st of September 2012. The award is set to boast the largest grand prize in the world of photography which totals US$ 120,000, and an overall grand prize pool of US$ 389,000.
