What is Expo 2020 YouthConnect?
Taking place in November, YouthConnect 2016 will be a two day festival for more than 1,000 young people from across the GCC aged 16-25, featuring hands-on workshops, inspirational speeches and engaging discussion corners, as well as entertainment and opportunities for networking.
What is HIPA?
The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) is an independent award established in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in order to encourage and spread the culture of photography across the world. HIPA will host the Expo 2020 YouthConnect competition through their official website which will include all the necessary rules and regulations and also contribute in presenting the prizes to the winners of the competition.
Who can participate in the competition?
We encourage all individuals resident in the GCC between the ages of 16 – 25 to participate.
What are the fees involved in the competition?
There are no fees whatsoever and the competition is completely free of cost.
What are the categories of the competition?
Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
How many pictures can be submitted in each category?
You can submit up to three photographs per category.
How do I submit photos for the competition?
All entries must be submitted through the official HIPA website.
How can I register for the competition?
Registration is available through the HIPA website; all Rules and Regulations must be read and accepted before registration.
How do I know that my photos have been submitted successfully?
After successfully uploading any photo(s), you will receive a confirmation email.
I have not received a confirmation e-mail, why is that?
Please check your spam or Junk mail folders for any emails from HIPA, and make sure to add email@example.com to your e-mail safe list.

Can I participate with a photo that has previously won a HIPA award/competition?
Yes, you can participate with any photo(s) that has already won in past competitions.
Can I participate with a photo that was submitted into another photography competition but did not win?
Yes, as long as you own the copyright of the photograph.
Can I participate with a photo that has already been used for commercial purposes?
No, that is not permissible.
Can I participate with a photograph that has been shared on a social media channel such as Facebook, Instagram, etc.?
Yes, that is possible.
Do I have to submit photos taken with a digital camera?
Entries can be taken with digital or analogue cameras or mobile phones, but submission must be done digitally online.
Can I delete or replace photos that have already been uploaded?
Yes, but deletion and/or replacement of photographs must take place no later than 3 days after the original upload.
What should I do if I am unable to upload my photo(s)?
Submitted Photo(s) must be in JPEG format, with high quality and resolution, of a minimum 2 MB in size. For technical support please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Can I use Photoshop or any other photo-editing software to edit my photo(s)? And what are the limits?
Yes, but it should not affect the authentication of the photo.
Are there any specific requirements for photograph(s) resolution and dimensions?
Submitted Photo(s) must be in JPEG format, with high quality and resolution, of a minimum 2 MB in size.
Are panoramic photograph(s) accepted?
Yes, they are.
Can I submit black and white photograph(s) in all the categories?
Yes, that is possible.
Can I upload the same photograph in more than one category?
No, that is not allowed.
What is the best internet browser to use for registration and the uploading of photo(s)?
We recommend the use of Google Chrome.
How do I change or update my contact details on the HIPA website?
You may edit or update all your details (except your email address) by logging on to your member page on the HIPA website.
Can I see my submitted images on the website?
Yes, you can see your submitted photograph(s) as soon as they are uploaded.
What can be done if I forget my username and password?

Will the judging be carried out without any knowledge of the names and details of participants?
Yes, judging will be carried out without any prior knowledge of participants’ names or details.
How will I be notified if I’ve won the competition?
If your photo is shortlisted, you will be contacted via the e-mail address you provided during registration.
If one of my photos wins with HIPA, can I use it to participate in other competitions?
Yes, although winners will be asked to sign an undertaking letter that allows HIPA and Expo 2020 to use winning photos in our publications and all noncommercial purposes. Rules and regulations of other competitions should also be taken into consideration in this case.
Can I sell my winning photo(s)?
Yes you can, but HIPA and Expo 2020 still hold the right to use it as per the undertaking letter.

Can I submit an image taken outside the UAE and GCC?
Yes, photos can be taken all over the world as long as they are relevant to at least one of the subthemes.
Can a person affiliated with Expo 2020 Dubai or HIPA participate in the competition? (This is related to the partners, agencies and groups who already work with Expo and HIPA)
No, this is not permissible.
How will you choose the winner? Will there be a jury? If so, who are the members of the jury?
Entries will be judged on their technical expertise and relevance to the subthemes by a jury comprising of 2 HIPA representatives and an Expo 2020 representative.
How and when will you announce the winners?
The winning entry from each category (3 winners in total) will be revealed at an awards ceremony held at YouthConnect 2016.
